“The most authentic thing about us is our capacity to create, to overcome, to endure, to transform, to love and to be greater than our suffering.” – Ben Okri
On this gorgeous fall evening, my husband and I crossed the border to Detroit and indulged in a fantastic dinner at Takoi to celebrate my 32nd birthday. Birthdays are not only a time for celebration, but reflection. As I get older, I tend to think more about who am I and who I want to be. In my 32nd year on this planet, I hope to be more authentically me and not feel like I need to create some kind of facade. Since I was young, I had the mindset that everyone had to like me, and I need to break away from that. I need to like me more, and by being true to myself, my emotions, feelings, and thoughts, I can achieve that goal. I want to eliminate, or at least decrease, any unnecessary pressure or negativity in my life. This isn’t an easy task, but so far 32 is feeling pretty good, and I look forward to what this year of my life will bring!
