Winter wonderland.

“People don’t notice whether it’s winter or summer when they’re happy.” – Anton Chekhov

Here in Windsor the weather is erratic. One day it’s warm, the next day there’s a blizzard and the temperature hits well below zero. Because of this, I often find I’m hesitant when it comes to bundling up when it’s cold. I also think it is a lot more difficult to be stylish or even take photos for this blog when it’s freezing outside. Luckily, I found a new winter coat this year that’s not only warm, but fashion-friendly. In addition to that, I was able to take full advantage of the recent snowfall and wear my new coat on a cold December night wandering through the beautiful Christmas lights display at Jackson Park. Though my feet felt like they were going to freeze off, it was quite enchanting to see the colourful lights reflecting off the snow, as well as all the people, young and old, enjoying the festive display. At times the weather outside can certainly be frightful, so it’s important that we try to stay positive and make the most of the winter season.

Bright Lights Windsor continues to light up Jackson Park until January 7.

Deck the halls.

“What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness?” – Jean-Jacques Rousseau

I know my hallway is literally not decked, but that doesn’t mean I’m not excited for Christmas! With our Christmas tree up, and the presents all purchased, I’m looking forward to a fun and relaxing holiday with family and friends. In addition to the time spent with loved ones and the traditions we share, what I love about Christmas is the general altruistic spirit in the air. I look forward to the food drive at the high school I teach at, as well as our annual Children’s Christmas Party where students host a fun day for local children with crafts, cookies, and of course, Santa. Every year I also help out with the local Jewish community’s menorah lighting at Devonshire Mall. This year the theme is peace, which is something I think all of us need to reflect on, no matter who or where we are. While there is so much hostility in the world, we should not dwell on the negativity, but unite in humanity. The holiday season kindly reminds us of that we should help our fellow neighbour if we can.

I want to wish all my readers a very Merry Christmas, Happy (belated) Hanukah, and Happy Holiday! Cheers!

Season’s greetings.

“One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.” – Friedrich Nietzsche

‘Tis the season to be busy! As soon as December 1st hit, life has been nonstop. From shopping for Christmas gifts, to attending holiday gatherings, this month can sure feel hectic. Through the insanity it may feel like your mind is going to explode (or at least your body with all the tasty treats), so it’s important that we try our best to find some quiet moments of reflection. I think that while we are busy we tend to forget why we’re doing these things in the first place. We should give because we want to show love and appreciation for each other, and gather to celebrate and enjoy the time we have together. So, take a deep breath, try to relax, and enjoy the holiday season – just don’t forget to don that gay apparel!

Black star.

How many times does an angel fall?
How many people lie instead of talking tall?
He trod on sacred ground, he cried aloud into the crowd
I’m a blackstar, I’m a blackstar

-David Bowie

I was once told I was weird. I took that as a compliment, and am quite proud of my “weirdness”. Lately I’ve been asking myself if I should keep up with this blog because it doesn’t seem to get much traffic. It’s difficult for me to always put out new content because I’m busy with work and other aspects of my life, but I keep wondering what I can do to make it more appealing to the public. After much thought, I don’t think I want to change the way I’m doing things. I want this blog to be a true reflection of me and my weirdness. My choice in clothing may not be for everyone, but that’s part of the point I want to make. It’s okay to be different, it’s okay to not to always be mainstream. I want my clothes, and this blog to be quirky like me. I think this particular outfit I’m wearing sums it all up – be fun, be daring, and most of all, be yourself!
